I’m an international award-winning Design Director / Art Director from New Zealand, currently based in Canada.
With over 13 years’ experience working in design, my work covers brand design, conceptual editorial design, advertising art direction, and everything that falls within.
That might be a lot of things, but whether it's for waste management giants, a postpartum support house, stuffed-crust pizza, or a city of 1.5 million, I bring the same relentless hunt for the big idea and an emotional intelligence that leaves even the most complex subjects simple and full of feeling.

*As Leadership
In order to better understand Calgary’s challenges around transit, social disorder and public safety, Vibrant Communities Calgary conducted research, which would be shared with policy makers and the general public through a report and microsite.
The research findings were not pretty.
The problems were complex, and there were a lot of unhoused Calgarians on the streets being perpetually moved on from every location they gathered; no place to go. This was not an assignment that could be solved with glossy stock shots and corporate body copy. It needed to tell the truth, even if it was a harsh truth. We wanted the design to reflect the uneasiness and harshness of the disorder on transit.
Ben developed an unsettling and distorted aesthetic approach by printing out, tearing, distressing, layer, and reconstructing elements by hand. The typographic elements and inconography is extracted from markings, words, and glyphs found along Calgary's LRT stations.
